A browse through the Dropbox forums today led me to the discovery of this little gem:
Even though the holidays have passed, we’re really stoked to give you guys one more present — a new experimental release! Under the wrapping you’ll find a bunch of new toys, including a brand new Camera Upload feature………we are also offering additional free space to test automatic uploading of photos and videos. For every 500MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you’ll receive another 500MB space bonus, up to 5GB total

As an EMS / Tech blogger and field paramedic, I use the hell out of Dropbox. I store all kinds of things like protocols, reference materials, blog drafts, graphics and random pictures that I take in my Dropbox folders. Having easy access to these files on all my computers and mobile devices is priceless.
So needless to say, I’m always on top of any offers of more free storage space. Normally you can get additional free storage space by referring friends, but for a limited time (I’m assuming) you can easily get up to 5GB of additional storage for free. All you have to do is download and install the 2.0.9 Beta on your Android phone.
You can download it by scanning or clicking on the QR code below from your phone or tablet:
Here is a list of some of the notable features included in the Beta:
• Automatically uploads photos and videos in the background using Wi-Fi or data plan
• 500MB of free space on first photo uploaded automatically
• Upload files of any size (no more 180 MB limit!)
• Support for resuming file uploads when there are network issues
• Various performance improvements & bug fixes
In order to get the full 5GB of storage offered, you have get to taking pictures and videos because for every 500MB that is automatically uploaded, you will receive 500MB of free storage. My suggestion is to start shooting some long high quality videos and just delete them from your Dropbox folder once you hit your goal. The new videos and pictures should automatically upload. Hey, for 5GB of storage, I’m not above working the system a little bit….
Side Note: Google+ users should disable automatic uploads on the Android App while they are doing this to avoid bogging down the phone and connection.
